The installation artwork titled ‘Does Grey Matter More’ embodies the intricate and interconnected nature of the stories and myths that we tell ourselves and others on social media. This digital metaverse is a grey area where it has become difficult to discern what is true as our versions of reality have become illusions, we have forgotten are illusions.

DOES GREY MATTER MORE AND WHY KNOT?

Our DNA carries within it the genetic information that defines us as individuals and as a species, and this information is passed down through generations, much like language and cultural traditions.  The knotted DNA represent the different threads or strands of information that we curate to create a mythical idealised version of ourselves.

SCROLLING THROUGH GREY MYTHICAL MATTER

A projection of moving images on the back wall of the installation.

People scroll through posts that show the grey scale of belief of an individual.  Self belief that fluctuates when affected by
the influence of those we follow and the validation we receive from the ‘likes’ of those who follow us.  The emojis jump with anticipation hoping they will be picked.

DOES GREY MATTER MORE?

My interest in the fluctuating meanings that are associated with symbols and globally understood, or
semiotics is illustrate in this moving image.   The sum shows how with a simple twist of the + to x the sum total/meaning changes.   The cross shown to be changing refers to the different ways the symbol for crucifixion has changed through centuries.
